This afternoon Dr. Krejci worked with undergrads Alyssa Stubbs (right) and Ja’Kaila Jefferson (left) to set up flasks and carboys for algal culture to support the new copepod cultures. Alyssa is using the copepods for her senior thesis project and Ja’Kaila is currently enrolled in a senior research which will transition into her senior thesis for Spring.
Today they learned how to acid wash, use vacuum filtration and the autoclave to sterilize seawater, and how to prepare algal growth media. We also prepared some new signs for the culture protocols we’ll be using.
